Diyarbakır prosecutors probe Şeytantepe documentary

The Diyarbakır Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has launched an investigation into the “Şeytantepe” documentary, which covers the investigation and trial processes of the Narin Güran murder case. Following a complaint by the Diyarbakır Provincial Gendarmerie Command and the Gendarmerie Crime Investigation Team (JASAT), authorities are investigating allegations of disinformation and the “publicly spreading misleading information” intended to discredit judicial decisions and target law enforcement personnel.

As part of the probe, the prosecutor's office has requested the Financial Crimes Investigation Board (MASAK) to examine the financial activities of 31 individuals. The investigation aims to identify connections between suspects, track money movements, and determine the financial dimensions of the alleged disinformation activities. Authorities stated that the scope of the investigation and the number of individuals to be processed may expand based on new evidence.

The documentary focuses on the death of 8-year-old Narin Güran, who was found dead in a stream in Diyarbakır in September 2024. Previous court rulings resulted in aggravated life sentences for her mother, brother, and uncle for “jointly and intentionally killing a child,” while a neighbor received a 17-year sentence for aiding the crime.
