Diyarbakır shooting injures journalist Mürsel Acay, prompts gun‑control demands
On the evening of 25 July in the Kayapınar district of Diyarbakır, unidentified gunmen opened fire on a restaurant, wounding journalist Mürsel Acay and two other patrons. The SouthEast Journalists Association condemned the attack, describing it as evidence of growing insecurity caused by unlicensed firearms and organized crime.
The association called for immediate legal measures to curb illegal gun trade, increased inspections, and a tougher response to criminal gangs, arguing that the incident reflects a broader threat to public safety across Diyarbakır and other Turkish cities.
