Diyarbakır taxi drivers demand inspections amid Martı TAG tensions
Tensions have escalated in Diyarbakır between commercial taxi drivers and users of the Martı TAG application. Following a report, police intercepted a Martı TAG vehicle, resulting in fines and the vehicle being towed to an impound lot.
Local taxi operators have called for increased inspections, claiming that the rise in ride-sharing vehicles via the TAG application is negatively impacting their livelihoods. Drivers highlighted the high costs of operating traditional taxis, including taxes, rent, vehicle maintenance, and employee wages, arguing that they should not have to compete under different sets of rules.
Martı TAG defines its service not as a traditional taxi service, but as a “route sharing” and “friendship transportation” model.
