Diyarbakır tradesmen leader calls for expanded border trade

Alican Ebedinoğlu, President of the Diyarbakır Union of Chambers of Tradesmen and Craftsmen (DESOB) and Deputy General President of the Confederation of Turkish Tradesmen and Craftsmen (TESK), has called for the acceleration of border trade to boost the regional economy.

During a meeting with Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan in Diyarbakır, Ebedinoğlu emphasized that more effective and faster opening of border gates with Iran, Iraq, and Syria would provide economic relief to provinces ranging from Diyarbakır to Mardin, Şırnak, and Hakkâri. He noted that border trade is essential for increasing employment, production, and strengthening local businesses.

Ebedinoğlu highlighted that for Diyarbakır to become a major trade hub for the Middle East, the region requires strengthened logistics infrastructure and faster customs procedures. He expressed the desire for the region to focus on investment and employment rather than conflict and migration, stating that economic stability and legal certainty are necessary to realize the area's significant economic potential.
