Diyarbakır: Two arrested in Dilek Kalkan cold case
Two suspects, Cuma Kaplan and Muhyettin Baranlı, have been arrested in connection with the death of Dilek Kalkan, whose remains were discovered in a riverbed in the Bismil district of Diyarbakır in 2014.
Following the establishment of the Department of Unsolved Crimes Research under the Ministry of Justice, authorities reopened the case. Investigations into 144 missing women in the Diyarbakır region led to the identification of the remains. DNA testing confirmed a 99.99% match between the bones and the mother of Dilek Kalkan, who had gone missing in May 2013.
Evidence gathered during the investigation included HTS (call detail) records showing frequent communication between Kalkan and several suspects. Medical records also indicated that Kalkan had been diagnosed as pregnant in May 2013. While two individuals were arrested, five other suspects were released under judicial control.
