Django 7X secures provisional overall victory in Rolex Middle Sea Race
The 47th Rolex Middle Sea Race is entering its final stages as the first yachts return to Malta after completing the 606-nautical-mile course. Giovanni Lombardi Stronati’s Wallyrocket 71 Django 7X, an Italian-owned Maxi yacht built by Wally, has taken the provisional lead in the IRC 1 class and the overall standings on time correction.
Django 7X secured its position following a intense duel with the Mills 72 Balthassar, skippered by Louis Balcaen. The two vessels traded positions throughout the race, with Django 7X eventually pulling ahead as wind conditions increased during upwind legs.
Other notable performances include Massimo Juris’s Colombre, which won the IRC 6 class and the double-handed crew category, and Frédéric Puzin’s Daguet 5, which holds a provisional lead in IRC 2. With a significant portion of the 107-boat fleet still racing, the final overall IRC title remains subject to change based on upcoming weather forecasts.
