Djarum Foundation plants 5,000 mangroves and launches research laboratory in Bali

The Djarum Foundation's environmental wing, Bakti Lingkungan Djarum Foundation (BLDF), has planted 5,000 mangrove seedlings in the Simba Segara coastal area of Denpasar, Bali. This initiative marks the third such planting event conducted by the foundation, bringing the total number of seedlings planted through these efforts to 15,000.

In addition to the planting, the foundation has established a ‘living laboratory’ at the site. This dedicated space is intended to serve as a research hub for scientists to study mangrove ecosystems. To improve upon the typically low survival rates of mangrove seedlings, the program aims to achieve a 65 percent survival rate through regular monitoring and maintenance every one to two months.

The project aligns with national conservation goals, noting that Indonesia holds the world's largest and most productive mangrove ecosystem, covering approximately 3.45 million hectares. These ecosystems play a critical role in carbon sequestration, capable of storing up to 3.1 billion tons of carbon.
