DJI introduces Local Data Mode for ROMO 2 robot vacuums
DJI has launched Local Data Mode for its ROMO 2 AI robot vacuum series, a move intended to establish a new privacy standard for home robotics. This technology, which DJI first implemented in its drones in 2017, allows the DJI Home app to disconnect from the internet, ensuring that user data is stored and processed locally on the device rather than in the cloud.
While the robots initially connect to the internet during their first setup to map their surroundings, once Local Data Mode is activated, all mapping data, images, and navigation information remain on the device. This local processing is designed to reduce the risk of unauthorized third-party access or external data exposure.
Core functions, including obstacle avoidance and navigation, continue to operate without an internet connection, allowing users to customize cleaning cycles and manage docking even during network outages.
