Djibouti and France strengthen bilateral ties in Paris

Djibouti and France have engaged in high-level diplomatic discussions in Paris to strengthen bilateral cooperation. President Ismaïl Omar Guelleh met with President Emmanuel Macron at the Élysée Palace, while foreign ministers Abdoulkader Houssein Omar and Jean-Noël Barrot held consultations at the Quai d'Orsay.

A central focus of the meetings was the implementation of the Defense Cooperation Treaty signed in July 2024. Discussions also addressed regional security in the Horn of Africa and the Red Sea, emphasizing the importance of maritime security and freedom of navigation in these strategic waters.

In addition to defense and security, the two nations discussed economic development, including French investment in Djibouti's infrastructure and airport sectors. A new agreement was signed regarding the reform of Djibouti's secondary education system, which includes the construction of a polyvalent high school in Balbala. Other areas of potential expansion include space research, scientific cooperation, and climate change mitigation.
