Djibouti Football Federation faces leadership crisis after committee dismissal

A governance crisis has emerged within the Djibouti Football Federation (FDF) following an extraordinary general assembly held on October 5, 2026. During the meeting, 39 delegates voted unanimously to dismiss the existing steering committee and its president, Souleiman Hassan Waberi.

To manage the transition, an ad hoc committee has been established, with Sahardid Hassan Ladieh appointed as interim president. This committee is tasked with maintaining administrative continuity and preparing for the implementation of new governance structures.

The outgoing FDF leadership has rejected the legitimacy of the assembly, claiming it lacked a proper statutory basis. The federation reported that police presence at the national technical center forced officials and employees to vacate the premises, allowing a group of club presidents to enter under escort to hold the vote. The FDF has expressed its intention to escalate the matter to FIFA and the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
