Djimon Hounsou Foundation hosts Run Richmond 16.19
The Djimon Hounsou Foundation will host the fifth annual Run Richmond 16.19 from September 11–13. The event is designed to serve as a living classroom, using movement, music, and storytelling to explore over 400 years of Black history, culture, and community.
The signature run will take place on Saturday, September 12, at Abner Clay Park, offering participants the choice between an 8K run/walk and a 16.19K run. The routes will traverse Richmond’s historic neighborhoods, highlighting themes of slavery, resistance, Emancipation, Black entrepreneurship, and the Civil Rights Movement.
To enhance the educational experience, the event will utilize history markers, educational videos, and a GPS-enabled mobile experience. Additionally, audio stories narrated by Djimon Hounsou will provide context at key locations along the course, transforming the city into an outdoor museum.
