Djurgårdens IF suspends trainer over political death threats
Djurgårdens IF (DIF) Boxning has suspended trainer Aldo Colliander with immediate effect following violent threats made against Swedish political figures. In a live broadcast, Colliander made statements regarding the need to kill Alternative for Sweden (AfS) leader Gustav Kasselstrand, comparing a potential attack to the assassination of Olof Palme, and expressed similar sentiments toward Sweden Democrat (SD) leader Jimmie Åkesson.
The club's board stated they take a definitive stand against such statements and noted that they had previously observed questionable content on Colliander's social media accounts. A final decision regarding his permanent removal from the association is pending a future board meeting.
In response to the club's public condemnation of the threats, journalist Frida Sundkvist has resigned from the Djurgården association and returned her season ticket. Sundkvist criticized the club, alleging that its actions served to facilitate a ‘right-wing extremist campaign’ during an election period.
