DK Shivkumar Set to Succeed Siddaramaiah as Karnataka Chief Minister

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah handed his resignation to the Governor’s secretary, ending the recent political standoff in the state. In the resignation, Siddaramaiah stipulated that his son would be appointed as a cabinet minister. Following the resignation, senior minister D.K. Shivkumar is poised to be appointed the next chief minister, a move expected to be accepted by the Governor as a constitutional duty. The transition clears the way for a new government in Karnataka, which has a population of about 70 million.

Shivkumar and other senior ministers attended a media briefing where the upcoming leadership change was discussed. The Congress party, which holds a majority in the state legislature, expressed thanks to Siddaramaiah for his two terms as chief minister and his service to the state.
