Déli railway station maintenance to conclude Sunday evening

Maintenance work at Budapest's Déli railway station is scheduled to conclude on Sunday evening following a full weekend track closure. MÁV specialists performed extensive repairs to address long-standing technical issues that have caused speed restrictions and frequent delays in the region.

Key technical improvements included replacing concrete tracks, repairing switches, and replacing bedding and switch components near the Kis-Gellért-hegyi tunnel. Crews also maintained the tunnel entrance and retaining walls, and inspected signaling equipment, overhead lines, power supply systems, and passenger information displays. As a result of these works, train speeds at affected switches are expected to be restored incrementally, improving schedule reliability.

These efforts are part of the broader Baross Railway Development Plan. Future phases of this plan include a comprehensive modernization of the station and the Kis-Gellért-hegyi tunnel. Planned upgrades involve lowering the track level by approximately 20 centimeters to allow multi-level commuter trains to access the station, installing new double-track lines within the tunnel, reinforcing tunnel walls, and renewing platforms, security camera systems, and communication networks.
