DLRG awards 39 German schools for excellence in swimming instruction

The German Life Saving Association (DLRG) has awarded the ‘DLRG & Schule’ promotion prize to 39 schools across Germany. The biennial award recognizes educational institutions that demonstrate exemplary commitment to swimming instruction and training children to become safe swimmers.

During an award ceremony at the DLRG Federal Center in Bad Nenndorf, ten of these schools received special prizes from the DLRG Federal Association. The remaining 29 schools will receive their awards from their respective state associations. The winning schools were noted for their well-thought-out concepts and collaboration with extracurricular partners.

DLRG President Ute Vogt emphasized the importance of swimming as a vital life skill, while Federal Education Minister Karin Prien, the patron of the award, highlighted that swimming provides children with security, joy, and freedom. The initiative addresses concerns from the DLRG that more than half of boys and girls in Germany are unable to swim safely by the time they leave primary school.
