DM to discontinue packaging-free refill stations in Hungary

DM Kft. has announced that its packaging-free refill stations for detergents and cleaning products will be discontinued by autumn 2026. The initiative, which launched in Hungary in December 2020, was originally intended to provide a sustainable, waste-free alternative to traditional packaging.

The decision follows a study by the Energy and Environmental Research Institute (IFEU), which concluded that the refill stations did not offer a clear ecological advantage over traditional packaging in terms of carbon footprint. Additionally, the company cited low customer interest and insufficient usage rates as primary reasons for the phase-out, noting that the solution was not sustainable due to its low utilization.
