DMAE celebrates 61 years of sanitation services in Poços de Caldas

The Municipal Department of Water and Sewage (DMAE) in Poços de Caldas, Minas Gerais, is celebrating 61 years of operation. Established on September 15, 1965, the agency manages water supply, sewage collection, and treatment for the city.

Poços de Caldas is noted as the only city in Minas Gerais with a population exceeding 150,000 to achieve universal sanitation services ahead of the deadlines set by the Legal Framework for Sanitation. The municipality currently provides 100% treated water supply and 100% sewage collection and treatment.

The infrastructure includes three water treatment stations, three sewage treatment stations, 60 reservoirs, and various pumping stations. Operations are monitored 24 hours a day via an Operational Control Center that utilizes artificial intelligence to manage flow, pressure, and energy consumption while reducing water loss. The agency works in partnership with the Intermunicipal Basic Sanitation Regulatory Agency (Arisb-MG) to ensure service regulation and transparency.
