Dmitri Lovetsky captures sunset over St. Petersburg cathedral

Photojournalist Dmitri Lovetsky has captured a rare sunset photograph featuring the Cathedral of Saints Peter and Paul in Peterhof, a suburb of St. Petersburg.

To achieve the shot, Lovetsky positioned himself on Vasilievsky Island, across the Gulf of Finland, at a distance of 17 kilometers from the cathedral. The photographer utilized a Sony 400-800 lens with an X2 converter to reach a focal length of 1340 mm. Lovetsky noted that the successful shot required a rare combination of clear skies near the horizon and the correct azimuth, which he planned using a precision light-visualization tool.
