Dmitry Medvedev calls for ban on return for Russian citizens opposing war

Dmitry Medvedev, Vice Chairman of the Security Council of the Russian Federation and leader of the United Russia party, has issued harsh rhetoric against Russian citizens who have left the country and oppose the war in Ukraine. Speaking at a United Russia party congress in Moscow, Medvedev described these individuals as “traitors” and “scoundrels,” comparing them to “cockroaches” who have scattered to various corners of the world.

Medvedev stated that there should be no forgiveness for those who wish for Russia’s defeat. He argued that while his stance might seem inhumane, such citizens should not have the right to return to their homeland, asserting that “no remorse will help.”

These comments coincide with reports of significant migration waves from Russia. Recent data indicates a surge in Russians fleeing to Georgia, with record numbers crossing the Verkhny Lars border crossing in mid-August due to fears surrounding mobilization efforts.
