Dmitry Medvedev warns nuclear weapon use is a reality

Dmitry Medvedev, Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council, has stated that Russia's potential use of nuclear weapons is a reality rather than a mere intimidation tactic. In an interview with the newspaper Vedomosti, Medvedev asserted that nuclear weapons could be used under certain circumstances to protect Russian security and ensure the conflict in Ukraine ends on Moscow's terms.

Medvedev emphasized that Russia's nuclear doctrine has been updated to expand the list of military threats that trigger nuclear deterrence. He warned that any aggression against Russia or Belarus by a non-nuclear state supported by a nuclear power would be viewed as a joint attack on both nations.

The former president further claimed that Russia is capable of delivering devastating strikes against Kyiv and key NATO targets, warning that such actions could lead to a global catastrophe or a third world war. He noted that while the final decision on nuclear use rests with the Russian president, the current situation is only seconds away from a 'doomsday clock' scenario.
