CIA Director John Ratcliffe visits Moscow to warn Russia against NATO attacks

CIA Director John Ratcliffe conducted an unannounced visit to Moscow, meeting with Russian intelligence officials including SVR head Sergei Naryshkin. While the Kremlin described the discussions as routine intelligence-to-intelligence contact, US media reports suggest the mission was intended to warn Russia against potential attacks on NATO member states, particularly in the Baltic region.

US intelligence assessments indicate that Vladimir Putin may attempt a limited attack on a NATO ally as early as this autumn. Ratcliffe also reportedly delivered a pessimistic assessment of the war in Ukraine to FSB head Alexander Bortnikov. Additionally, discussions reportedly touched upon regional security, including US demands for Russia to pressure Iran regarding the Strait of Hormuz.

In a separate development, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has ordered a significant escalation in military operations, directing forces to increase long-range drone strikes against Russian targets to 1,000 per day, up from the current average of 300.
