Dmitry Medvedev warns of space war over Russian satellite network
Dmitry Medvedev, Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council, has issued warnings regarding the development of Russia’s new satellite network, RaSvet. Responding to requests from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy for the United States to block the Russian satellite alternative to Starlink, Medvedev warned that any attempt to destroy or block RaSvet could trigger an unprecedented war in space.
Medvedev stated that if the Russian satellite constellation is targeted, American Starlink satellites would “fall like decorations from a dried-out Christmas tree.” This follows Kyiv’s efforts to use diplomatic channels to exclude Russian frequencies from the International Telecommunication Union.
In a separate shift in rhetoric, Medvedev also suggested to Iranian state television that Russia does not pose a threat to Europe or the West. He claimed Russia seeks only “full, normal dialogue and peaceful cooperation,” arguing that the perception of Russia as a threat is a tool used by the West to influence public opinion and increase military budgets. This stance contrasts with his previous warnings regarding nuclear escalation and the potential for a nuclear apocalypse.
