Dmitry Medvedev warns Russia's nuclear option remains a reality

Dmitry Medvedev, Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council, has stated that Russia's nuclear doctrine is a reality rather than a mere intimidation tactic. In a recent interview, Medvedev emphasized that Russia maintains the right to use nuclear weapons if its security is critically threatened.

The updated doctrine clarifies the conditions for nuclear use and expands the list of military threats that could trigger such a response. Notably, Medvedev noted that aggression by a non-nuclear state against Russia or Belarus, if supported by a nuclear power, would be considered an attack on both nations, reflecting their formal union state status.

Medvedev accused Western nations of pushing the world toward the 'brink of nuclear apocalypse' and warned that attacks on Russian cities could lead to World War III. While stating that Russia seeks to avoid global catastrophe, he warned that nuclear options remain a final resort when all other measures fail, noting that the world is only seconds away from a 'doomsday clock' scenario.
