DMK alleges EVM faults in Kolathur constituency and seeks court action

The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) claimed that roughly 30% of the electronic voting machines (EVMs) inspected in Chennai's Kolathur Assembly constituency were malfunctioning. Party legal wing secretary N.R. Elango said eight machines examined showed discrepancies, including missing address tags and improper sealing of control units, and announced the party would approach the Madras High Court after obtaining a certification from the Election Commission of India.

Election officials, including Chennai Corporation Commissioner and District Election Officer G.S. Sameeran, rejected the allegations, stating that the machines’ vote counts and records were accurate and describing the issues as minor clerical errors. The verification process, initiated by the Election Commission following a petition by DMK president M.K. Stalin, was briefly halted after DMK objections but later resumed without the party’s participation.
