Tamil Nadu politics: DMK attacks Vijay's new TVK-led alliance

Political tensions in Tamil Nadu have escalated following the formation of the ‘Secular Social Justice Victory Alliance’ led by Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay and his party, Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK). The main opposition DMK has launched sharp criticisms against Vijay, labeling him an “opportunist” and mocking the new coalition as an “Opportunistic Cash-box Alliance.” The DMK argues that Vijay is now partnering with the very parties he previously dismissed as unworthy of being named.

VCK leader Thol. Thirumavalavan has also commented on the shifting political landscape. He attributed the disintegration of the previous Secular Progressive Alliance (SPA) entirely to the DMK’s rigid stance and failure to respect its partners. Thirumavalavan noted that while he previously questioned the lack of legal accountability for Vijay regarding the Karur tragedy, the TVK’s decision to approach the Congress and Left parties rather than the AIADMK or BJP after the elections marked a significant shift.

Additionally, political friction continues as Congress leader Alim Al Bukhari accused both the TVK and the BJP of following a “fascist agenda,” specifically targeting TVK Law Minister Nirmalkumar for alleged lack of accountability and derogatory remarks against the Gandhi family.
