DMK leader questions Tamil Nadu government's fiscal management claims
DMK legislator and former Finance Minister Thangam Thennarasu has challenged the Tamil Nadu government's claims of improved fiscal management. The government reported a 21 percent decrease in borrowing through government securities during the first half of 2026-27, with figures dropping to 40,500 crore rupees compared to 51,300 crore rupees in the same period the previous year.
Thennarasu argued that a reduction in borrowing does not necessarily indicate better management and could instead signify a slowdown in development works or delays in paying contractor bills. He demanded transparency regarding capital expenditure, infrastructure investment, and outstanding payments. He questioned whether unpaid bills could be categorized as savings and urged the administration to disclose detailed spending figures for the April-September period.
