DMK slams Rahul Gandhi as traitor over delimitation and Cauvery dispute

During a visit to Tamil Nadu, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi warned that any party supporting a constitutional amendment to expand the Lok Sabha and a delimitation of constituencies would be a “21st‑century Ettappan”, a reference to historic treachery. In response, senior DMK MP Dayanidhi Maran denounced Gandhi, accusing the Indian National Congress of “trading trust for ministerial berths” and labeling its leaders “poisonous snakes”. Maran also linked the debate to the Cauvery water dispute, the NEET exam controversy and alleged horse‑trading by rival parties.

The DMK said it will study the proposed bill before taking a position, insisting that any changes must not harm the interests of southern states. The Union government has not formally revived the legislation, but the party’s outburst is seen as a potential boost for the BJP, which hopes DMK’s anger may sway support for its legislative agenda in Parliament.
