Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown Council to debate housing and memorial rules

The Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council is convening for a meeting to address several local policy issues, including housing, transport, and climate action. Key agenda items include a proposed residential development at Lehaunstown Lane, a Part 8 proposal for Sandyford Civic Park, and the establishment of an Active Travel Mobility Hub. Councillors will also consider a draft Public Arts Policy for 2025–2030 and various motions regarding social housing, renewable energy, and community amenities.

Additionally, councillors are set to vote on a new policy regulating roadside memorials placed at sites of fatal collisions. The proposed rules would restrict the size and placement of memorials and prohibit certain items, such as soft toys, illuminations, and large-scale floral tributes. Leo Lieghio, Vice President of the Irish Road Victims Association, noted that while memorials are vital for the grieving process, the policy must balance regulation with compassion for bereaved families.
