DNB ends fixed home-office days for employees

DNB, Norway’s largest bank, is implementing a new policy that ends fixed home-office days. Starting in October, employees will no longer be entitled to two remote work days per week and must instead seek individual approval from their managers to work from home.

The decision has sparked significant internal backlash among staff. On the bank’s internal platform, Engage, employees have expressed frustration, citing concerns over increased commuting time, reduced flexibility, and potential office overcrowding. Some staff members have criticized the move as “corporate BS,” suggesting the policy may be a way to encourage resignations without formal layoffs.

DNB management maintains that increased office presence is necessary to strengthen collaboration, learning, and innovation. While some employees have defended the move, arguing that face-to-face communication is superior, others warn that the loss of flexibility could lead to decreased job satisfaction and higher absenteeism.
