Dénia vegetation fire leads to arrest of suspected pyromaniac
A vegetation fire in Dénia, Spain, caused significant alarm on Saturday after breaking out near the María Ibars Institute and residential areas. The blaze, which produced a large column of black smoke, prompted the evacuation of approximately 200 residents from nearby buildings on Camí Gandia and Fragata street as a precaution.
Emergency services, including the Provincial Fire Consortium of Alicante, deployed ground and aerial resources to combat the flames. The fire was stabilized by approximately 15:00.
Local police arrested an adult male at the scene of the outbreak. The suspect was found in possession of three lighters and other incendiary materials. Authorities indicated that the individual has a prior criminal history related to pyromania, suggesting the fire may have been intentional.
