Dniester River water levels rise following rainfall in Moldova

Recent rainfall in Moldova has led to rising water levels in the Dubasari and Novodnestrovsk reservoirs. In the Dubasari reservoir, the water inflow increased by 50 cubic metres per second, raising the level by 8 centimetres to 28.10 metres. The Novodnestrovsk reservoir saw a 3-centimetre rise, reaching 110.96 metres.

Environmental expert Ilia Trombitchi, a member of the Moldovan-Ukrainian Commission for the Dniester, noted that while these increases provide some relief, upcoming precipitation forecasts for the upper Dniester basin may be insufficient for a significant recovery. However, he does not expect a deterioration in the water supply situation over the next month.

In the municipality of Balti, Mayor Alexandr Petkov reported that the water level near the Cosauti intake station rose to 2.38 metres, up from previous fluctuations between 2.10 and 2.18 metres. Local authorities are also continuing rehabilitation works on artesian wells to secure additional water sources for the city.
