Dénis Zacharopoulos, prominent art historian, dies at 74
Renowned art historian Dénis Zacharopoulos has passed away at the age of 74. Born in Athens in 1952, Zacharopoulos was a figure of international standing in the fields of letters and the arts.
His extensive career included serving as the artistic director of the Macedonian Museum of Contemporary Art in Thessaloniki and the director of the Domaine de Kerguehennec in Brittany. He also held significant roles such as co-director of Documenta IX in Kassel and a curator for the French Pavilion at the 48th Venice Biennale.
Zacharopoulos was an educator who taught at various prestigious European institutions, including the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna, where he was an honorary professor, and the University of the Aegean in Mytilene. His academic background included studies in music in Athens and philology, aesthetics, and the sociology of art in France.
