DNIT authorizes expropriations for Xambioá-São Geraldo Bridge access

The National Department of Transport Infrastructure (DNIT) has issued Ordinance No. 4.329/2026, authorizing the expropriation of lands and improvements to complete the access roads for the Xambioá-São Geraldo Bridge. The bridge, which connects the states of Tocantins and Pará over the Araguaia River, has been operational since November 2025.

The authorization covers a 2.01-kilometer stretch along the BR-153 corridor, including 1.7 kilometers in Tocantins and 310 meters in Pará. This legal measure allows DNIT to evaluate affected properties, negotiate compensation, and seek judicial intervention if necessary to finalize the project.

The infrastructure project involves a federal investment of approximately R$ 250 million. While the bridge has already reduced crossing times from 30 minutes via ferry to five minutes, the definitive access roads, including marginal streets and a bypass to divert heavy traffic from urban areas, depend on the completion of this land acquisition process.
