DNP lawmakers propose amending Montenegro's vaccination laws

Members of the Democratic People's Party (DNP), including Milan Knežević, Jelena Kljajević, and Vladislav Bojović, have submitted a proposal to amend the Law on the Protection of the Population from Infectious Diseases. The amendment seeks to change the current requirement that makes mandatory vaccination a permanent condition for children to attend public or private preschool institutions.

The proposal suggests that restrictions on unvaccinated children should only apply during a declared epidemic or when there is an immediate danger of spreading a specific disease, as determined by the Institute of Public Health of Montenegro. Under this plan, the restriction would remain in effect only until the danger passes, unless a child has a permanent medical contraindication to a specific immunization.

Proponents argue that this change would align the infectious disease law with the Law on Preschool Education and Upbringing, which allows for temporary restrictions during actual infection risks. They state the goal is to ensure equal access to education outside of epidemic periods while protecting children's health when real risks exist.
