DO Bierzo wine region anticipates early harvest in August

The Consejo Regulador of the Denominación de Origen (DO) Bierzo has confirmed that grape ripening (envero) has already begun, allowing the harvest to start in the second half of August. This is earlier than the usual September start, with an estimated 40‑day window from envero to picking, especially for the early‑maturing Godello variety, followed later by Mencía.

President Adelino Pérez described the grapes as being in an "excellent" sanitary condition, crediting intense winter rains that stored water in the vines and helped them withstand early summer heat. While no exact grape‑weight figures were given, the council expects the wine quality to be excellent.
