Do2dtun and Ayo Animashaun clash over Headies awards location

Nigerian media personality Adedotun Kayode, known as Do2dtun, and The Headies founder Ayo Animashaun have engaged in a social media dispute following the decision to host the 18th Headies awards ceremony in Toronto, Canada.

Do2dtun criticized the move, arguing that credible music awards should be homegrown institutions that serve their local industries, citing the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) as a consistent, domestic model. He suggested that award ceremonies should remain independent of an organizer's personal preferences to maintain brand credibility.

Animashaun responded by challenging Do2dtun to start his own awards ceremony and alleged that the criticism was motivated by a personal grievance. Animashaun claimed that Do2dtun had previously requested assistance in securing a United States visa through The Headies and became bitter when that request could not be fulfilled. Do2dtun denied these allegations, stating his concerns were about justice and the cultural purpose of the awards rather than visa assistance.
