Doña Ana County lifts evacuation orders after dam failure warning and flooding

Doña Ana County has lifted all evacuation orders following severe flooding and a warning of the ‘imminent failure’ of the McLeod Dam. The evacuation orders, which previously affected Hatch, Placitas, Rincon, Salem, and Garfield, were rescinded after officials determined the major flooding risk had subsided.

Despite the lifting of orders, emergency management officials continue to warn residents of lingering hazards, including localized flooding, debris, roadway damage, and damaged bridges. Authorities advise against driving through flooded roadways or around barricades.

Recovery efforts are being supported through The Community Foundation of Southern New Mexico’s Greatest Need Impact Fund, which accepts donations to assist with natural disasters and emergencies in the region.
