Doña Carlota homicide hearing in State of Mexico continues

A key intermediate hearing began in Chalco, State of Mexico, for Carlota “N”, known as Doña Carlota, and two of her sons. The defense presented evidence it says shows the April confrontation with alleged squatters was an act of legitimate self‑defence. Supporters gathered outside the court with banners demanding the qualified homicide charge be re‑classified as homicide in self‑defence. Doña Carlota, who remains free under precautionary measures, faces a qualified homicide trial after two people were killed and a third injured during the incident at her property in Ixtapaluca.

The hearing was later postponed to 20 August because the legal adviser for one of the victims did not appear, prompting the judge to delay further proceedings. The defense has asked the court to replace the absent adviser to avoid further delays. A separate robbery case related to the same property invasion is also pending, with authorities estimating the stolen amount at about 300,000 pesos.
