Doñana ecological corridors occupied by intensive crops and wells

The environmental organization WWF has reported the presence of 140.2 hectares of intensive crops, primarily under plastic or in greenhouses, within the ecological corridors of the Doñana natural space. The findings, based on satellite imagery and orthophotography, also identified 83 irrigation ponds and 66 wells located in these critical biodiversity zones.

Despite the 2014 implementation of the Special Irrigation Management Plan for the Doñana Forest Crown, these corridors have failed to fulfill their essential functions. WWF noted that these areas have not been properly demarcated as public domain, allowing agricultural infrastructure to remain and preventing ecological restoration.

Juanjo Carmona, WWF's Doñana coordinator, expressed concern that this situation hinders the connectivity of the ecosystem. The organization criticized the Junta de Andalucía for failing to implement necessary field measures, stating that the continued occupation of these spaces demonstrates administrative permissiveness in a protected area previously flagged by UNESCO for recovery.
