DOC NYC announces lineup for 17th edition documentary festival
DOC NYC, the largest documentary festival in the United States, has announced the lineup for its 17th edition. The festival will feature more than 200 films, including 118 features and 89 short films. The event is scheduled to run in-person from November 11 to November 19 at the IFC Center, SVA Theatre, and Village East by Angelika in New York City, with online screenings continuing through November 29.
The festival’s Short List for documentary features has a significant history as a predictor for the Academy Awards. For 14 of the last 15 years, the festival has screened the documentary feature that eventually won the Oscar, and it has showcased 64 of the last 75 Oscar-nominated documentary features. Artistic Director Jaie Laplante noted that the list serves to highlight films that the Academy’s documentary branch should watch before voting.
Notable titles in the lineup include ‘14th’, a film exploring the legacy of the 14th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, and ‘American Doctor’, which follows physicians providing support at a hospital in Gaza.
