Doc Rivers joins NBC Sports as NBA analyst after coaching retirement

Hall of Fame coach Doc Rivers is transitioning to a full-time media role, joining NBC Sports as an NBA game analyst. Rivers, who recently retired from coaching the Milwaukee Bucks, stated in an interview with the Associated Press that he is ‘absolutely retired’ from coaching and intends to focus 100% of his attention on television.

Rivers will provide analysis for games across NBC, Peacock, and NBCSN. This move marks a significant reunion, as he will work alongside his son, Austin Rivers, who has been part of the NBC broadcast roster since 2025. This pairing makes them the first father-son duo of former NBA players to serve as analysts for the same network.

Rivers’ coaching career included 1,194 wins and a 2008 NBA championship with the Boston Celtics. His broadcasting history includes stints with Turner Sports and ESPN/ABC, as well as serving as a studio analyst for NBC during the 2012 London Olympics.
