Dockworkers in 22 countries strike to block arms shipments to Israel

Port workers across 22 countries and 113 ports launched an international strike on October 30, 2026, to protest the transport of weapons to Israel and other conflict zones. The mobilization, involving more than 25 unions, includes major maritime hubs such as Genoa, Hamburg, Valencia, Algeciras, Tanger Med, and Piraeus.

Organizers suggest the strike could impact over 40% of cargo transport in the Mediterranean, with maritime operations valued at more than $2 billion potentially affected. In addition to protesting military shipments, workers are demanding improved labor conditions, wage increases, and enhanced safety for sailors exposed to conflict zones.

The movement has received support from the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement and 17 Palestinian trade unions. The Federation of Water Transport Workers in India has also indicated that approximately a dozen Indian ports could face disruptions.
