Dockworkers strike at 113 ports in 22 countries over military shipments

Dockworkers across 22 countries and 113 ports launched a coordinated global strike on October 30 to protest the transport of military equipment and weapons. The mobilization, organized under the slogan “Dockworkers do not work for war,” specifically targets shipments destined for Israel and US military cargo.

Participating unions from countries including Italy, France, Greece, Spain, Türkiye, and Morocco issued joint statements demanding an end to the conflict in Gaza and the cessation of using civilian maritime infrastructure for military logistics. In Italy, the USB union reported massive participation, including a general strike affecting transport and logistics sectors. In France, the CGT Ports et Docks reported that approximately 95% of French ports were affected by the action.

In Greece, the strike at Piraeus and other ports disrupted ferry services. While the mobilization aims to create economic pressure by blocking cargo, logistics experts suggest the 24-hour action may have limited impact on overall global supply chains.
