Doctor arrested in Albufeira for suspected rape of patient

A 61-year-old doctor has been arrested in Albufeira, Portugal, on suspicion of raping a 52-year-old patient during a consultation at a private health facility. The incident reportedly took place in June within a controlled environment where the suspect allegedly used the pretext of a clinical diagnosis to subject the woman to abusive sexual acts.

The Polícia Judiciária (PJ) stated that the investigation revealed the suspect has a criminal record, including previous convictions for crimes against sexual self-determination committed at various private hospitals in the Algarve region. Following the collection of evidence, the Public Ministry issued arrest warrants, which have been executed. The suspect is being presented to the court for judicial interrogation and the application of coercive measures. The inquiry is being led by the Departamento de Investigação e Ação Penal (DIAP) of Albufeira.
