Doctor arrested in Bhubaneswar for alleged ₹30,000 bribe
The Odisha Vigilance Department apprehended Dr. Satyajit Behera, an Assistant Surgeon at Capital Hospital in Bhubaneswar, for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of ₹30,000.
The bribe was reportedly requested in exchange for signing work certificates for employees of an NGO. This NGO is tasked by Capital Hospital with assisting unknown and destitute patients in the casualty department. The certificates were necessary for the employees to process their salaries for June and July 2026.
Following a complaint from an NGO functionary, vigilance authorities laid a trap on August 17 and caught Dr. Behera while he was allegedly accepting the money. The department seized the full amount of the bribe. Authorities are currently conducting simultaneous searches at three locations linked to the doctor to investigate the potential possession of disproportionate assets. A case has been registered under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
