Doctor assaulted by patient's son at Kalyan hospital

An orthopaedic surgeon, Dr. Yogendra Jaiswal, was allegedly assaulted by a patient's son at Bhanujyot Hospital in Kalyan, Maharashtra. The incident occurred during a consultation where the doctor was explaining a patient's treatment plan, including medication dosages and dietary restrictions for a rib fracture.

According to reports and CCTV footage, the accused, identified as 30-year-old Vineet Jaywant Deshmukh, became aggressive during the discussion. After initially being asked to leave the cabin by the patient, Deshmukh allegedly returned minutes later to verbally abuse and physically attack the doctor, grabbing him by the neck. Bystanders and other patients intervened to assist the physician.

The Kalyan police have registered a case against Deshmukh under sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including voluntarily causing physical hurt. The incident has sparked renewed concerns regarding the safety of medical professionals in the Thane region, following similar reported attacks on doctors in nearby Dombivli in recent weeks.
