Doctor in China leaves 20-year medical career to sell steamed buns
Dong Min, a 48-year-old woman in China, has transitioned from a 20-year medical career to running a successful steamed bun business. After graduating from Wuhan University in 1999, she worked as a gynecologist in Shenzhen before returning to Wuhan to assist her mother with a private clinic.
Following her mother's retirement, Dong Min served as a doctor and legal representative for a small community hospital in Tianmen, Hubei province. She cited significant mental pressure, including managing medical disputes and administrative inspections, as reasons for her desire to change careers.
In 2023, she opened a steamed bun shop in Wuhan. The business has grown sufficiently for her to open a second location in July. Despite working over 10 hours a day, Dong Min stated she is happy with her decision to pursue a life she enjoys.
