Doctor sentenced for using falsified exam to join Brazilian Air Force

A Brazilian doctor, Teresa Salamone, has been sentenced to one year of imprisonment in an open regime for using a falsified gynecological report to join the Brazilian Air Force (FAB) as a temporary medical officer.

During a selection process for the Air Force Hospital of São Paulo (HFASP) in August 2024, Salamone was required to submit a Papanicolaou exam. Her actual results indicated a ‘Classe III’ condition, which renders a candidate unfit for military service under Air Force regulations. To bypass this, she submitted a forged document claiming a ‘Classe II’ result, which is considered normal.

The fraud was uncovered following an anonymous tip to the Air Force ombudsman in February 2025. A forensic investigation by the Institute of Criminalistics revealed that the document was a copy of an old exam from 2020, with the date altered to August 30, 2024. The military hospital confirmed the discrepancy after contacting the original laboratory. Despite denying the allegations during her testimony, Salamone was convicted of using false documents by Judge Vitor de Luca.
