Doctors perform limb-preserving surgery for bone cancer patient
Doctors at Bệnh viện K successfully performed a limb-preserving surgery on a mother of two suffering from a large bone cancer tumor in her femur. The patient, Hà Thị Huệ from Thanh Hóa, arrived at the hospital with severe pain and a knee joint locked at a 90-degree angle, making movement nearly impossible.
The tumor was located near critical nerves in the thigh and popliteal region. To treat the condition, surgeons removed the section of the femur containing the tumor and replaced the knee joint with a hinge joint. Following the procedure, the patient began rehabilitation and is now able to stand and take her first steps. Due to her difficult financial circumstances, charitable organizations provided 220 million VND to assist with her treatment costs.
In a separate medical case at Bệnh viện Bạch Mai, an 82-year-old woman with severe osteoporosis underwent a procedure to treat a collapsed T11 vertebra caused by a minor fall. Doctors used balloon kyphoplasty, injecting biological cement into the vertebra to restore height and manage pain.
