Documentaries explore historical repression in Argentina and Chile

Two new documentaries exploring historical repression in Latin America are set for release.

“Pasó en el Delta,” produced by the Concordiense collective Producciones del Sur del Sur, will screen in Montevideo on October 9. Based on Fabián Magnotta’s book “El lugar perfecto,” the 63-minute film investigates the “death flights” used during the civic-military dictatorship to transport and murder disappeared persons in the Argentine Delta region.

In Chile, the documentary “Cocaína Negra” explores the life of Eugenio Berríos, a biochemist for the DINA repressive apparatus. Directed by Cristóbal Valenzuela Berríos, the film utilizes personal recordings to depict Berríos as a complex figure linked to crimes such as the 1976 assassination of Orlando Letelier. The film will premiere at FICValdivia on October 14 before a commercial release on November 5.
